Dicalite Perlite

Dicalite Perlite

Perlite is the generic name for a naturally occurring siliceous volcanic rock readily available throughout the world. A unique property of perlite is that it expands up to 20 times its original volume when it is heated to its softening range. This expansion is caused by the presence of water in the crude rock. When perlite ore is rapidly heated to above 850OC. this water vaporizes and causes the softened rock to expand. This process is analogous to popcorn popping.

Tiny glass-like bubbles are produced which account for the light weight and distinctive properties of expanded perlite. These lightweight glass-like bubbles are then milled and particle size classified under exacting quality control to produce Dicalite perlite filter aids.

Dicalite Perlite filter aids have crystalline silica below the concentration that is a concern for worker exposure. The light density makes perlite excel in many filtrations especially those using rotary vacuum precoat filters.

Dicalite perlite is produced in a full range of grades to meet the needs of most industries. Dicalite perlite is inert in most chemical environments and does not impart taste, colour or odour to liquids being filtered.
