Dicalite Diatomaceous Earth

Dicalite Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomite is a soft, friable, chalk-like, non-metallic mineral composed of the fossilized skeletal remains of microscopic single-celled aquatic plants called diatoms. Over 10,000 species of these microscopic algae have been recognized, each with its own distinct shape, ranging in size from under 5 microns to over 100 microns. Diatomite deposits are usually categorized based upon their fresh water or marine origin. Diatomite is essentially silicon dioxide and thus inert in most chemical environments. This feature and its physical structure make it of great commercial value for a wide spectrum of uses, including filter aids, functional fillers, carriers for active ingredients and diluents, and aggregates.

Diatomite filter aids are processed in a kiln above 800°C (1500°F). Both calcined and flux-calcined diatomite filter aids are free of organic matter and are non-adsorptive.

Filtration using diatomaceous earth has been done for more than 100 years. For many products it is the most cost effective filtration available today.

DICALITE DIATOMITE filter aids provide outstanding performance from the finest to the coarsest grades. These materials meet all requirements for good filter aids including the exacting clarity and flowrate demands of industrial filtration. Even more important, the user can depend on consistency and uniformity load after load.

We stock a wide variety of grades manufactured from both freshwater and marine deposits of diatomaceous earth. We can determine the correct product and the right grade for your application to produce optimal flow and clarity at the right price.
